Overview

Featuring a Magnumlite (MGL) III Spool that reduces startup inertia by 15%, the Shimano Curado 150 M Casting Reels utilize an ultra-light and thin spool construction to maximize casting distance, efficiency, and performance with lighter lures. Designed with an SVS Infinity braking system for precision casting performance, the Curado 150 M offers anglers the ability to fine-tune brake settings when switching lures or adapting to changing conditions. Protected by a highly rigid Hagane metal body, the Curado 150 M Casting Reels offer X-Ship technology that ensures smooth functioning from proper gear alignment and allows the gears to stay in the same position when under heavy loads.

Fixed with a MicroModule Gearing system that utilizes smaller gear teeth to increase contact points and create a smoother feel, the ultra-compact precision gear also reduces vibration levels while maintaining excellent strength to further improve overall reel performance. Using S A-RB bearings that are shielded on both sides, the Curado 150 M prevents unwanted debris from inhibiting the buttery smooth bearing rotation. Cross Carbon Drag technology boosts the durability and efficiency of the drag to extend versatility with a wide range of fishing applications, making the Shimano Curado 150 Casting Reels a high-quality do-it-all design.

NiceNot sure why people think the braking on this reel is inferior compared to the 150MGL. All of the part numbers are exactly the same. Only things that are different from previous versions from what I can tell by the schematics is that the new 150M gets the same drive shaft as the 200M, the star drag is aluminum (not plastic), and the spool is lighter (MGLIII replaced MGLI). Other than those differences, it's the same exact reel. Maybe just some people with some bad examples? Maybe the new MGLIII spool is too fast for them? I bought a bunch when they came out and I haven't noticed any difference in comparison to the 150MGL. They have been nice casting reels so far.

Works like it's supposed toBought three of these so far in 8:1. I'm kind of confused by the other reviews saying the brakes don't work right. Currently have a jig on one (3/8oz), a t-rig tube on one (1/4oz), and a large frog on one. I haven't adjusted the internal "pegs" at all (still set to three on and three off from factory). 3/8oz jig casts a mile with zero backlash. Frog got a little overrun with that, so moved the external brake from 1 to 2 and casts a mile no problem. T-rig same setting as frog and casts a mile no problem. Haven't been out in heavy wind yet, but assuming I'd have to increase the external braking to higher numbers with wind, as usual. Also confused by the reviews that say it's not the same quality as the MGL. Honestly, I can't tell the difference. If I was blind folded, I wouldn't be able to tell which I was casting. I guess that is one negative....I don't really see any difference in performance compared to the previous version.

Smooth, but lacking compared to older versionMy first experience with Curado was a 200 bought back in early 2017 (the silver "I" version). This new version, although very smooth due to the Micromodule gearing, feels cheaper and less controlled than the older version. I'm not sure what causes this...perhaps the silent tune mechanism? Whatever the reason, if I can only bring one Shimano with me, it will probably be the old 200. This is a good reel, just not as good as the older version, in my opinion.

Missed the mark for a CuradoNot sure why the Curado 150 MGL is a great reel and the Curado M is not. The braking is very inconsistent. Not a refined as past Curado reels, and I’ve had many over the years. I had to return mine, wasn’t worth the price.

Not a great reel...Bought 2, Returned 1, and wish that I just returned both before I used the reel for 8+ trips. As others have stated, the breaking system is not that great and the quality feels cheap. I thought maybe I could get it dialed in, but its like a really comfortable mattress. No matter how you adjust it, the breaking system is very inconsistent. You know how far your reel should cast, these either over break or under break for the weight and distance. I wish I did not waste my money on this one, but do love most Shimano products. Awarded a second "star" because it is a great size reel, looks good, holds a perfect amount of 8lb, and is light.

Could be priced better, still quality reelFor 2025 you cannot possibly find a best valued reel. Smoother and lighter than a dc 150 and is comfortable in hand just like the last Curado M. Fish about whatever you want with it, it can do it all from 6’ glidebaits to ned rigs. This thing tears them up. Would reccomend as a pitching/flipping reel. Holds lots of 40lb braid. This is my new favorite. Pricing could be better but with the new pricing on Shimano, there’s not much you can do. Overall great reel, would recommend trying one out.

Its not the Curado 150 MGLI know it has a mgl spool, but the 150 mgl just feels better and $25 cheaper. I have been buying Curado's since the 200 Greenies. May be looking at Diawa or Lews if Shimano is going backwards in quality.

Centrifugal Brake IssuesIf you adjust brake paddles other than the 3 pushed down on arrival it causes spool to get stuck. Even with spool tension knob entirely loose. I use shimano on all setups and this is the first time this has ever occurred. Aside from this issue I have no complaints, it still casts smooth etc. But it’s a pretty significant problem for the value.

Light, Smooth, Solid Reel but mediocre breaksHas been a great reel but the centrifugal breaking system on these is just not that great and no where near Daiwa reels for a similar price. The breaks lacking in performance is really the only ding I can give these, I love the feel and size of this it palms great and is really low profile.
